Exploring Family Understanding of Schizophrenia: A Qualitative Study Among Rural Families in East Java, Indonesia

Introduction: Families who care for schizophrenia patients will experience various challenges, which are influenced by the family's knowledge and understanding of schizophrenia. This study aims to explore in their families rural Indonesia 2020.Methods: uses a qualitative research design with phenomenological approach, was conducted East Java Provincial Health Office from July October 2020. The participants were five family members cared patient at home. Researchers semi-structured in-depth interviews analyzed using interpretative analysis.Results: Based on thematic analysis, three main themes found, including 1) Family doesn't understand schizophrenia; 2) ignorance about how patient; 3) Schizophrenia considered burden.Conclusions: risks causes inaccuracy treating patients. Nurses need provide education basic its treatment so that they can optimal be able manage burden experience.
